The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still
My go to scripture has to be Exodus 14:14- it’s carried me through some of my toughest seasons. “The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still”. This for me is an image of the Father heart of God- standing with a protective posture alongside his children, no matter what they face.
It’s almost like him saying to us “Keep calm, I’ve got this- you just relax and trust that I have it all under control” and that, to me, is a true depiction of a loving Father.
Growing up in a single parent household I always saw my Mother cling to the word of God like a lifeline. Whether she was on her knees in prayer, or stood with arms raised in worship, from a young age I made the association that the words in the book she held were evidently far more than words.
Not until my late teen-hood did I establish my own relationship with God in which I realised, in him alone the ultimate satisfaction can be found. His word truly is a lifeline- giving hope to the disappointed, joy to the desolate and strength to the weary.
I never truly appreciated that the songs my mother would play throughout our house were simply scripture turned into a song, but once I did, there was no silencing me!
I worship because I want my voice to be a vessel of God’s love. Whether that be through words to song, or simple conversation with a neighbour, worship far surpasses the tune of a melody, it’s all about the way in which we prioritise HIM, his will and his way in our lives.
For as long as I have a voice, I will always use it to make known the name of Jesus and to try my best at being a living example of his unconditional love. Think of it like this; the breath in our lungs is God given so why not give back to him that which he has gifted to us?
