I actually think Sat-Nav’s were a God inspired invention to better help us understand how the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives, prompting us to make a left turn when we need to, encouraging us when we’re going on the right road, telling us to ‘please turn around when possible’ when we’re taking our lives in completely the wrong direction!
God has a plan for your life, but it’s not just for you to randomly figure out on your own. He has reason for that plan, He has a greater purpose for your life than what you can see or perceive, and so He wants you to succeed, He wants to see you fulfilled, it’s His desire that you are fruitful and prosperous in all of your ways and so through His word (whispered by the Holy Spirit) He has for you direction, instruction, a pattern (a plan ) for you to follow.
Now, I’m no good at baking at all! But I can follow a recipe, and this I know, if I have all the right ingredients, the right equipment and follow the plan, adding my ingredients in the RIGHT ORDER at the RIGHT TIME – whether I think I’m good at baking or not is irrelevant because I AM going to produce a cake!!
I think everyone of us has some form of dream or goal or ambition inside of us, the drive to accomplish something in our lifetime, or to be the best we can possibly be at what we do. Well, here’s the good news, God does not have ‘favourites’. He doesn’t do more for one than He does for another out of choice, it’s not about the length of time you’ve been walking with him that grabs His attention but it is about the integrity of your walk with Him;
LOVING GOD in all seasons of life – is your ingredients.
BELONGING and planting yourself in the local church – is your equipment.
DAILY reading the word of God – shows you what order to put things in, in your life.
Do these three things … And you will produce the desires of your heart.
Zelponith is our woman today! You will not find her name in the Bible, but you will find her story in Judges 13;
Here we read the account of Manoah and his wife – (A study from the encyclopedia of Jewish women tells us the Babylonion Rabbis knew Manoah’s wife to be Zelponith)
Manoah and Zelponith were the parents of Samson.
Zelponith was barren without child and desperate for a baby and God heard her cry;
God knows your area of barrenness,
Barren in the area of love;
Barren in the area of peace;
He knows the un-productive, un-fruitful areas of your life, that look dead and hopeless, nothing has happened in this area of my life for years.
Well right in the middle of this woman’s disappointment God sends an angel to tell her, that he’s heard the cry of her heart and she needs to ‘take care’ of herself because she is in fact pregnant now…..
Have you ever considered that as you have been going about your everyday life, though you cannot feel it, cannot see it and do not perceive it, God has been growing a promise on the inside of you? That you are in fact pregnant with His desires for your life now!
The next thing God does is He puts the onus ON HER to walk in HIS WAYS DAILY, to live her life right, so that what is on the INSIDE of her will grow until its ready to be seen on the OUTSIDE.
Zelponith took responsibility;
The angel told her, ‘Drink no wine & eat nothing ritually unclean’
I think God was teaching her to exercise self-control, no matter what you see everyone else doing, remember you’re carrying a promise on the inside of you and in order for that promise to live you need to;
Control your mouth;
Control your thoughts;
Control your actions and know when to say no!
Consider what you’re consuming;
Gossip is contamination –
Offence is contamination –
A bad attitude is contamination –
Seeds of promise will die on the inside of you when you’re feeding on the wrong stuff!
And so as we read on in this story, we see Zelponith makes herself accountable to Manoah.
Although this woman was a carrier of the promise, she knew she could not bring it forth by herself, she needed the support, wisdom and influence of her leader (in this case her husband).
ACCOUNTABILITY looks like having support from someone who loves you, but loves you enough to tell you when you’re going wrong –
What Zelponith was infact saying to Manoah was–
If you see me having a glass of wine – snatch it out of my hand!
If you see me with a pork sandwich – take it from me!
I’m giving you permission to be firm with me in the areas I may be weak, so that – that which is within me will grow healthy and strong.
Who is there in your life who will tell you when you’re off track?
Who is there who is firm enough to say to you;
- You’re attitude is off;
- That conversation sounds like gossip; or
- Pride is prevalent here and it’s ugly!!
Let’s choose to be women who worship God in our daily walk with Him, by taking RESPONSIBILITY and asking for ACCOUNTABILITY….. Zelponith brought forth Samson, one of Israel’s great Judges and the strongest man to ever have lived.
What are you pregnant with in your spirit that God wants you to nurture so that He can show the greatness of His strength through, the power of His might and the depth of his wisdom. Can you be a nurturer of the seeds of promise and see what comes forth from your life? Your daily walk with God is to worship in obedience and in this He finds His trustworthy ones.
